MonoCode is a free, open-source desktop app that gives your existing coding agent CLIs a proper graphical home. Instead of juggling multiple terminal windows for Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor CLI, Grok Build, OpenCode, Pi, omp, and fx, MonoCode wraps them in tabs, with each tab representing a session and a single composer box for input. It does not run its own models and does not sell tokens: it simply orchestrates the coding agents you already have installed and logged in to, using the subscriptions or API keys you already pay for.
Built on Tauri (Rust + web frontend), MonoCode ships as a native app for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Linux (.deb and AppImage), and Windows (NSIS installer). The project is MIT-licensed and openly developed on GitHub, where it has attracted meaningful attention since launch.
Who it is for
MonoCode is aimed at developers who already use one or more terminal-based coding agents and are tired of context-switching between raw CLI windows. If you run Claude Code for one project, Codex for another, and occasionally reach for Cursor's agent CLI, MonoCode gives you a single window to manage all of those sessions side by side. It is less useful if you only ever use one agent inside an IDE that already has a UI (like Cursor's own editor), since the value comes from unifying multiple CLI-based agents.
It is also a good fit for developers who are cautious about routing their agent traffic through a third-party proxy that resells tokens: MonoCode explicitly avoids that model, so your requests go directly through the provider CLI you already authenticated.

Pricing
MonoCode itself is free and open-source (MIT license). There is no paid tier, subscription, or account system on top of it. You still need to install and pay for whatever underlying coding agents you plan to use (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.) β MonoCode is the UI layer, not the model provider. The vendor site does not list any pricing for MonoCode because there is none to list.

- No hosted or managed version β it is a self-managed desktop install with no cloud sync between machines
Getting started
Install and authenticate at least one supported CLI agent first (for example, claude auth login for Claude Code or codex login for OpenAI Codex). Then download the MonoCode build for your platform from the project's GitHub releases or the macOS .dmg on the official site, install it, and open it β MonoCode will detect any logged-in agents and let you start a session in a new tab immediately.
Verdict
MonoCode is a well-scoped, honest piece of tooling: it does not try to be another AI coding agent, it just makes the ones you already use easier to run side by side. For developers juggling Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor's CLI across multiple terminal tabs, it removes real friction at zero cost. The "very early" label is worth taking seriously, but the core idea β a token-neutral, multi-agent desktop shell β is one of the more sensible additions to the AI coding tooling space this year.
